MoodPulse

Frequently asked questions

Short, clear answers about MoodPulse, the daily global mood index.

Last updated:

What is MoodPulse?

MoodPulse is a free, anonymous daily mood index. Anyone can press one of five faces to log how they feel today, and we publish the aggregated global signal in real time.

Is MoodPulse a mental-health tool?

No. MoodPulse is not a diagnosis, therapy, or crisis service. It is a public sentiment signal for media, researchers, NGOs and the curious public. If you need support, contact a qualified professional or a local crisis line.

Is it anonymous?

Yes. Voting requires no account. Optional Google sign-in unlocks a private personal dashboard, but your individual votes are never shown to anyone else and aggregates only appear once a bucket has 50+ contributors.

How often can I vote?

Once per UTC day, per device. Repeated attempts are rate-limited and excluded from the index.

How is the mood index calculated?

Each vote maps to a 0–100 score (face 1 = 0, face 5 = 100). The Mood Index is the arithmetic mean of qualifying votes for the current UTC day. Country and segment indices use the same formula on filtered subsets.

Why is some data hidden?

Any bucket with fewer than 50 contributors is suppressed to protect individuals. This is a standard k-anonymity threshold and applies identically to global, country and segment views.

Is the sample representative?

No. Participants are self-selected, so MoodPulse is not a probability sample of any population. It is most useful for tracking change over time, not for absolute cross-country comparison.

Can journalists or researchers use the data?

Yes — please credit MoodPulse and link to the source page. See our pages for media and researchers for citation guidance and contact details.

Where is MoodPulse based?

MoodPulse is an independent global project. It is not affiliated with any government, political party, or commercial market-research firm.

How do I delete my data?
